Interaction between Nucleic Acids and Berberine Sulfate
نویسنده
چکیده
Mellors et al. ( 1 ) h a v e found by means of microfluorometry that an approximately linear relation exists between the fluorescence intensity of cell nuclei stained with berberine sulfate and their nucleic acid content. However, very little is known as to the interaction between nucleic acids and berberine sulfate in vitro. The purpose of the present study is to examine this interaction in vitro in the hope of developing a fluorometric method for nucleic acid analysis.

Uptake of and Resistance to the Antibiotic Berberine by Individual Dormant, Germinating and Outgrowing Bacillus Spores as Monitored by Laser Tweezers Raman Spectroscopy
Berberine, an alkaloid originally extracted from the plant Coptis chinensis and other herb plants, has been used as a pharmacological substance for many years. The therapeutic effect of berberine has been attributed to its interaction with nucleic acids and blocking cell division. However, levels of berberine entering individual microbial cells minimal for growth inhibition and its effects on b...

Objective(s): Iron is an essential element for living organisms. Iron overload can have detrimental effects on health. This study pertains to the protective role of berberine against ferrous sulfate-induced hepatic and renal functional disorders and histological damages in rats.Materials and Methods: The rats were divided into four groups (n=7): Sham, Ber (10 mg/kg/day for 14 days, by gavage), ...
متن کاملPolymorphic Nucleic Acid Binding of Bioactive Isoquinoline Alkaloids and Their Role in Cancer
Bioactive alkaloids occupy an important position in applied chemistry and play an indispensable role in medicinal chemistry. Amongst them, isoquinoline alkaloids like berberine, palmatine and coralyne of protoberberine group, sanguinarine of the benzophenanthridine group, and their derivatives represent an important class of molecules for their broad range of clinical and pharmacological utilit...
متن کاملMultiple bidirectional alterations of phenotype and changes in proliferative potential during the in vitro and in vivo passage of clonal mast cell populations derived from mouse peritoneal mast cells.
Mouse peritoneal mast cells (PMC) express a connective tissue-type mast cell (CTMC) phenotype, including reactivity with the heparin-binding fluorescent dye berberine sulfate and incorporation of [35S] sulfate predominantly into heparin proteoglycans. When PMC purified to greater than 99% purity were cultured in methylcellulose with IL-3 and IL-4, approximately 25% of the PMC formed colonies, a...
متن کاملA theoretical study on interactions between Berberine as an anticancer drug and DNA
In this study, we present the work on the physicochemical interaction between the anti-cancer alkaloidberberine (BRB) and DNA with the purpose of designing drugs that interact more with DNA. Molecularmodeling on the complex formed between berberine and DNA presented that this complex was undeniablyfully able of participating in the formation of a stable intercalation site. Besides, the molecula...
